Marketing
Making it happen...
What does the term marketing mean to you? Many students think it means the same as selling. Others think of marketing only as advertising. And no wonder – every day we are bombarded with radio commercials, sales calls and promotional offers. However, selling and advertising are only the tip of the marketing iceberg.
Students will learn that marketing is about satisfying customer needs. Marketers need to develop products that provide a competitive advantage, set prices that provide value for money, and distribute and promote these products effectively. Thus, students will gain a thorough understanding of the marketing mix – a set of marketing tools that work together to satisfy customer needs and build customer needs and build customer relationships.
Consumer behaviour is one of the topics that will be focused on in Marketing. “I am a consumer and you are a consumer”. Most of us spend more time buying and consuming than we do working or sleeping. Marketers spend millions attempting to influence what, when, and how we consume.
Students will be introduced to the exciting and ever-changing world of international marketing. New markets are springing up in emerging economies in Eastern Europe, Africa, Indonesia, Korea – in short, globally. Learners will learn how the marketing mix needs to be adapted in order for a business to become a global player.
The media industry is part of the service industry and students will come to understand that service marketing is different from product marketing and that it requires different strategies and tactics.
Marketers need to collect data to solve problems and students will gain a thorough knowledge of the planning and executing of a marketing research project.
