Entry Requirements

Minimum Qualification: A relevant Bachelor’s Degree as per the Policy on Minimum Requirements for Teacher Education Qualifications (MRTEQ, 2015).

Consideration may be given to graduates of DHET approved 360-credit Diplomas.

The underpinning degree or diploma must include sufficient study in relevant academic fields and at appropriate levels (NQF levels 6 and 7) to support the subject specialisation selections in the PGCE (SP and FET Teaching).

Second Language Communicative Fundamentals (LoCC) Module

For applicants who have an African language (excluding Afrikaans) or SA Sign Language as part of their National Senior Certificate (NSC) or National Certificate (Vocational) (L(4)) (NC(V)) or Senior Certificate (SC) OR have completed a module in an African language (excluding Afrikaans) or SA Sign Language in their Bachelor’s degree will be exempted from the LoCC module.

*Note: SP and FET specialisation choices must fall in the same specialisation area, e.g., Economic and Management Sciences for SP and Business Studies for FET.
